About the position:
The Chief of Staff to the Secretary General is responsible for the management and coordination of the day-to-day activities of the General Secretariat, ensuring its efficient, professional, and methodical operation. In this capacity, they actively contribute to decision-making, as well as the monitoring, coordination, and implementation of strategic actions within CAF.
Reporting directly to the Secretary General, this position requires a highly trusted senior manager capable of handling priorities, addressing sensitive issues with absolute discretion, and driving progress within the divisions, in close collaboration with directors, departments, Member Associations, partners, and all stakeholders. Keen judgment, proven organizational rigor, and the ability to navigate a constantly evolving environment with expertise will be essential.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the day-to-day management of the Secretary General’s Office, adhering to rigorous professional standards.
Assist the Secretary General on priority issues, risks, and key decisions.
Develop clearly defined work plans, complete with timelines, responsibilities, and follow-up measures, based on established priorities.
Monitor the progress of Executive Committee decisions and management priorities.
Coordinate weekly reports, updates, briefings, and decision-making documents.
Prepare speeches, correspondence, presentations, talking points, and sensitive communications.
Ensure seamless coordination between the Secretary General and CAF’s divisions, departments, and regional stakeholders.
Work closely with Directors and Department Heads to align priorities, monitor implementation, and resolve any bottlenecks.
Maintain strong working relationships with Member Associations, FIFA, partners, public authorities, and football stakeholders.
Identify delays, risks, gaps, or operational issues and propose practical solutions.
Organize senior management meetings, management sessions, and strategic workshops.
Ensure follow-up on internal approvals, deadlines, commitments, and action items.
Foster teamwork and enhanced interdepartmental cooperation.
Lead and develop the Office of the Secretary-General’s team with accountability and high standards.
Support key improvement and reform projects managed by the Office of the Secretary-General.
Participate in internal or external meetings on behalf of the Office as required.
Required profile:
CAF is seeking a skilled and motivated professional with sound judgment and an open mind.
A bachelor’s degree in law, business administration, management, public administration, international relations, or a related field is required.
A postgraduate degree would be an asset.
At least 10 years of experience in senior management, strategy, governance, chief of staff, consulting, or similar leadership roles is required.
At least 5 years in a senior management or advisory role is required.
Experience working in multi-sectoral environments requiring maturity and sound judgment.
International experience in sports, business, public administration, consulting, or institutional settings would be an asset.
Strong analytical skills combined with a proven ability to deliver results.
Excellent project management and monitoring skills.
Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills.
Executive acumen and diplomacy.
Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Able to handle confidential matters with discretion.
Keen judgment in operational, governance, and commercial issues.
Practical, proactive, resilient, and pragmatic approach.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
Comfortable using reporting systems, dashboards, and workflow management tools.
Willingness to travel within Africa and internationally.
