Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Lecturer to deliver courses on Food Security and Livelihoods at the Humanitarian Studies Institute. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in humanitarian aid, with significant experience in international organizations, particularly in sectors related to food security, livelihoods, agriculture, and rural development. This role involves teaching, mentoring, and engaging students on topics vital to humanitarian response and development practices.
Key Responsibilities
● Course Delivery:
○ Deliver online lectures and facilitate discussions on food security, livelihoods, and related topics in humanitarian contexts.
○ Prepare and update course materials in alignment with curriculum goals and industry standards.
○ Monitor student progress and provide academic support to ensure successful course completion.
● Planning and Coordination:
○ Contribute to the development of the course schedule and syllabus, ensuring that all themes are covered as per the outlined curriculum.
○ Participate in weekly, monthly, and quarterly academic planning meetings.
○ Coordinate with other faculty members to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive learning experience for students.
● Student Engagement:
○ Supervises and guides students on assignments, projects, and research.
○ Foster a collaborative online environment for peer-to-peer learning and discussions.
○ Ensure that each student receives personalized feedback to support their academic growth.
● Fieldwork and Practical Application:
○ Provide real-world insights into food security and livelihoods, using case studies and examples from international organizations.
○ Share best practices and experiences from the field to enhance student learning and understanding.
○ Offer mentorship to students pursuing careers in food security and livelihoods within humanitarian contexts.
● Assessment and Reporting:
○ Design and implement assessments to measure student learning and understanding of course materials.
○ Provide regular feedback on student progress through grades and written evaluations.
○ Prepare and submit reports on course activities, student performance, and any necessary adjustments to course content.
Qualifications
● Education:
○ Master’s degree (Bac+5) in Food Security, Agronomy, Rural Development, or a related field.
○ Specialized certifications or training in humanitarian aid, food security, or livelihoods will be considered an asset.
● Experience:
○ Minimum of 3 years of professional experience working in international organizations or humanitarian agencies, specifically in food security, livelihoods, and related sectors.
○ Proven teaching experience, preferably in an online or distance learning environment.
○ Experience in field-based activities related to food security, agricultural development, or livelihood programs is highly desirable.
● Skills and Competencies:
○ Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage an online audience effectively.
○ In-depth knowledge of humanitarian standards and practices related to food security and livelihoods.
○ Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
● Language Proficiency:
○ Fluent in English (spoken and written). Knowledge of French is an advantage.
