To obtain a national identity card in Cameroon, the applicant/citizen must go to an identification post. More than two hundred (200) identification posts are currently operational in the Public Security Commissariats and the Special Commissariats. The National Security also has twenty (20) mobile identification stations based in the chief towns of the regions.
At the identification post, the requesting citizen must pay only the amount due provided for by the regulations in force, namely 2,800 CFA Francs . In addition to this sum, he must provide documents according to the following scenarios:
1. Case of a first request
The user must have:
- a certified true copy of the birth certificate;
- a copy of the marriage certificate, for married women issued by the administrative or municipal authority;
- a documentary evidence of the profession, if applicable;
- a nationality certificate signed by the President of the Court of First Instance.
2. Cases of loss, theft or damage
The user must submit:
- an attestation of loss declaration;
- a photocopy of the lost card;
- a certified copy of birth certificate;
- a nationality certificate signed by the President of the Court of First Instance if the lost card comes from the old enrollment system.
3. Expiration
the user must provide:
- the expired National Identity Card;
- a copy of the marriage certificate, for married women;
- a documentary evidence of the profession;
- a certified copy of birth certificate;
- a certificate of nationality signed by the President of the Court of First Instance if the expired card comes from the old enrollment system.
After subscribing to the application for the National Identity Card, a temporary identity document is issued to the user. It should be recalled that the possession of the provisional identity document constitutes a presumption of identity. The validity of said temporary identity document is 03 months, possibly renewable once. In no case may a duplicate National Identity Card be issued. The user holding a temporary identity document also called a receipt must keep it carefully because, the withdrawal of the National Identity Card is made against return of it in the identification station where the applicant has filed his file.
