THE BANK:

Established in 1964, the African Development Bank (AfDB) is the premier pan-African development institution working for economic growth and social progress in Africa. It has 81 member states, including 54 in Africa (Regional Member Countries). The African Development Bank’s development agenda aims to provide financial and technical support to transformative projects that will significantly reduce poverty through inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Africa. To better focus on the objectives of the Ten-Year Strategy (2024-2033) and achieve greater development impact, the Bank has defined five major areas (High 5s) for its interventions in Africa to be intensified to accelerate the achievement of results, namely: energy, agro-industry, industrialization, integration and improving the quality of life of the African people.

THE HIRING COMPLEX:

The Vice Presidency for Agriculture, Human and Social Development is a sector complex whose activities are structured around the 5 major priorities (High 5) of the Bank’s Ten Year Strategy, and more specifically the priorities “Feed Africa” and “Improve the quality of life for the people of Africa”. The objectives of the complex are: i) the development of policies and strategies, ii) the provision of in-depth sector expertise to the regions, thanks to a pool of specialists who can be consulted on complex transactions, and iii) the development of new financing instruments. The Vice President will act as a spokesperson to represent the Bank to external stakeholders in order to promote its actions aimed at “Feeding Africa” and “Improve the quality of life for the people of Africa”.

THE HIRING DEPARTMENT / DIVISION:

The Human Capital, Youth and Skills Development Department, which is part of the Vice Presidency for Agriculture and Human and Social Development, coordinates actions carried out to achieve the objective of “Improving the quality of life for the people of Africa” and contributes to the achievement of the other High 5 objectives. The department also coordinates the implementation of the Bank-wide strategy for youth employment in Africa. It has four regional sectoral divisions in charge of Human Capital, Youth and Skills Development: (i) AHHD.1 which covers the East Africa Region, (ii) AHHD.2 which covers the Southern Africa Region, (iii) AHHD.3 which covers the countries of the Central and North Africa regions. This regional division is dedicated to building a pipeline of projects, issuing loans and managing the portfolio for all social sectors (education, health, social protection, youth employment) in the countries of the Western and Central regions. It is also responsible for coordinating client relations and partnerships in these countries.

MAIN DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the Head of Division, the Operations Assistant will have the following responsibilities:

Support the recruitment of consultants, initiate the processing of their contracts in SAP, prepare service orders, process their payments and follow up with the relevant Accounting and Treasury units.
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports on the management and performance of the division’s activities.
Support the preparation of documents, briefing notes, tables and correspondence required for the management of work programs and projects/programs.
SELECTION CRITERIA (Skills, Knowledge and Experience):

Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Management, Information Technology or a related field. Have at least four (4) years of progressive and relevant experience in an international organization. Have working knowledge and experience with systems (SAP / BPPS / ATRS / SRAS and TFMS) as well as the African Development Bank Operations Manual. Ability to work in a team and provide support to other team members as needed. Demonstrate high integrity and accountability in all aspects of portfolio management and program implementation. Professional approach: a good understanding of the Bank’s organizational functions and procedures, self-control, and an exemplary personality. Excellent organizational and written and oral communication skills in English or French, with a working knowledge of the other language. Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic international and multicultural environment. Manage internal and external requests quickly and effectively. Knowledge of administrative tasks. Proficiency in standard Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
