Call for applications for the recruitment of young investigators for
a study on the perception of well-being by local communities
and indigenous populations in some localities in Cameroon
Background to the study
Following the Glasgow Declaration at the twenty-sixth Conference of the Parties to the
United Nations Convention on Climate Change, a
collaborative program between philanthropic funders, civil society organizations
and community-based organizations was established in 2021. Housed within the Climate and Land Use
Alliance (CLUA), this program aims to reduce and reverse tropical deforestation, while
supporting just and sustainable development. It aims to increase the reach of civil society voices at local, regional and national levels, in order to strengthen the land and forest rights of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, restore degraded forests, promote sustainable and inclusive economies, and advocate for
policies that protect forests and their biological and cultural diversity.
Following an inclusive process of exchanges and reflections with CSOs, local communities and indigenous peoples from various countries in the Congo Basin, a sub-regional strategy was developed as well as monitoring, evaluation and learning indicators. Although already
known, these indicators still require that reference situations be determined
for each of them. It is in this sense that SAILD was mandated by CLUA with the support of the World Resource Institute (WRI), to carry out in Cameroon a baseline study for the indicator on the well-being of populations in forest areas, which is formulated as follows
: “By 2030, there is an increase in the perception of the level of well-being among
indigenous populations and local communities, measured in percentage terms,
then disaggregated according to age, gender, and other relevant social categories.”
To carry out this study, which will be carried out on the basis of the Basic Necessity
Survey (BNS) methodology, SAILD intends to recruit around ten investigators to collect data
from the populations of a few identified villages.
Location of the surveys
The surveys will be carried out among local populations in four Regions of Cameroon,
namely the Centre, the South, the East and the Littoral. The identified districts are as follows:
Lomié, Ngoyla, Yokadouma, Campo, Akom 2, Mintom, Yoko, Nanga Eboko, Dibamba.
Responsibilities / tasks incumbent on the investigators
The recruited investigators will have to collect data in 30 villages identified by SAILD
in the localities specified above, using a questionnaire developed on the basis of the Basic
Necessity Survey. The collection will be done through tablets equipped with Kobo collect software.
Specifically, the agents will have to carry out the following activities and tasks:
▪ Visit the identified communities;
▪ Take part in group discussions with different sociological components of the
villages, with a view to developing the list of essential goods and services;
